Another Family Addition

Well decided to produce theHive that I sketched the other week.

theHIVE Welcome to theHive a small home of killer B's. They play innocently around their home, but disturb or destroy theHive then I hope you can out run them....

Enter the Blob Family.

Thanks to Carl for more characters for the Game.

CHICLUKS A flying menace that can easily attach from any direction. It can kill you with its deadly bones, with one strick.

HOGROLL Arrrrh! I here you all say, isn't that cute, well while this cuddable hegroll roams around the world of blob, your looking at a deadly demon that has killer spikes, so do not get to close, no matter how much you want to pick it up.

PENGOOS Now, they are cute and are friendly, the Pengoos are your friend and when approached can give you clues to help you on your way, or they just talk in code and jibberish.

Some New Characters

Carl has created some new characters that will have hier part in the game. My I welcome ...

Boib | a slimey little jelly fish type character that eats everything in its way and if its not edible it destroys so avoid at all costs. Boib is immune to you until the third level when a double jump can destroy boib's. So make sure you dont come to close.

Toki | Say hello to your friend, well thats if you manage to save them. These are your main goal within each level. You need to set free between three and six on a level depending on the Level Number. Each Toki will help you in your quest for the codes by providing a Clue or Answer to your Quest. So be nice and dont leave any behind.

more characters are on the way.....

trust me to carry on and not say...

You might notice through out the Disc Case / Booklet design that kelloggs is being used. This is one of the Marketing Ideas I will share with you for now.

We are using the fact that kelloggs approached us with doing a CD Game that they can promote either a new/current brand with a On-loine and Cd Available game through their cereal boxes. The idea would be that the first two levels would be available then to progress to the next levels a code would be release with in the cereal boxes and the need to purchase these to obtain the code would be necessary, also codes code be requested by txt messaging or through visiting their site where clues to the location and what they are could be with in the game itself on the current level etc.

Then there would be a big prize(s) for those who reach the end by a certain time etc and a load of runners up Prizes.

My next step it to come up with the design for the Cereal box.

The Final Chapter in the Case Adventure

Well I have also managed to moke-up a prototype for the booklet that will fit into the Disc Case. The rest of the layout will come soon, will need to do a little more research into what's needed etc like, Instructions, Intro, controller keys, a run down of each characters ect, but that shall be it for now as will look into more of my marking side of the project. I will post up some of my ideas and that soon.

The Disc Label

As you can see I have completed the Label Now as well. Hopefully its all Ok. Now onto the Booklet then hopefully thats it for today.

Case complete

Well have managed to complete the Prototype Disc Case. please see the above front and back images. I now will look at the Cd Label and the Booklet. Unfortunately as you can see in the above image of the front Case the hamlet emboss is showing through but its not as bad on the real tin, still noticeable, but will look for a non embossed Tin.

The Case Design

Above is the front case design.

Above is the Back case design

the making of the Case part three

As you can see from the images above, the different case design fits nicely around the 8cm disc(s) which will hopefully be enough to fit all the information on 210mb, otherwise a nice 8cm DVD vesrion would be nice.

The making of the Case part two

Anyway after a few hours of drying and spraying I designed a rough and printed it out and placed it onto a test tin See the Test Tin above guys. I was not happy with the out come and the colours did not come out properly so will probably change the design.

After a few mins sanding spray the can white ..blah! blah! blah!

the making of the Case part one

Welcome to my relived youth and showing you that my wasted time watching blue peter.

Materials :

A can of White Spray paint
Sandpaper
Some sheets of Safmat (Modern Clear Skicky back Plastic printable)
Several Tins of Hamlet ( incase of mistakes)

a magic wand ....

Marketing One

While at work I went to throw out a used Hamlet tin, the thin sort. I then had a thought a bout a different way of packaging using this for our CD deployment rather than the usual DVD case etc . So Heres my efforts at the construction of the case and the graphics.

Well the Festive seasons Over and the Work conts..

hey! guys hope every things ok and nice to see ya! all again.

Well! there's another start of term where we are straight into it. Did not do much work as the xmas holidays are a family occasion, but has not stop me from thinking.!

a good example

mission-in-snowdriftland

This is a good example of what we are intending to do. With regards to the marketing of the game and that. This is a very good christmas game based on the advent calendar where a level is opened on the day giving 24 levels. And the game is addictive .

The main thing this has with ours is that after each level you complete you go to the lab and are then offered some goodies like screen downloads, ringtones etc similar to our idea of offering things as you complete levels, also this is free but is a promotion for nintendo so the designers get paid and the game gets nintendo publicity, its already been passed around a forum I am on with around 200 members and I in turn have passed it onto another forum etc

The Flash Demo Video.

Well the heres the Presentation Flash of our Game - Blob, used to demo on Mondays presentation.

Blob Demo

(The Flash player js script is playing up at mo, so it will load then play, but will pause for a little so just let it flow and it will continue, so bare with it for a mo, until i sort out this problem, thank you)

Whats next...

...well a grouping together and organising our duties for the progress of the Game and company website and other stuff.
Will post up whats what and whos doing what once everyones ok'd the company structure ect.

Blob

Well with the character we have gone for an earlier character that carl designed a while back, saving time as well as being a good fit with in our game. The wings are not a feature but will probably be part some where with in the game, as blob will be on foot from the start of the game.

The Company Name ..

Well we had to start to think of this so after a few suggestions and that "SPLASH" became our company name. At this time we had another member join our small company, Chris Steele, Welcome Chris. Above are initial ideas for logos for the company. The site will soon follow but we decided to get the demo game video and that ready for the presentation early on this week. so this will be coming soon. Well the actual company URl is as follows.

Splash Designs

Enemies and other stuff

The images above show a few initial ideas for enemies and the other one if the complete level sketch idea for the demo and the presentation video.

Logo and game name

The Name was simply choosen on the idea of the first character roughs as they resemble two blobs on top of each other. So i have included some roughs of the Logo and layout idea as well as the first character Idea.

Roughs and Ideas

I have Included a few rough from my workbook on the game and initial character idea.

A side option idea :-)

Well an idea is to place a real moving sky image on the background as in the example on this link.
Moving Sky backgroung

(Sky footage care of Advanceflash, for trail purpose thanks)

Problems to Solve ideas

Above are some sketch ideas for problems to solve within the first level, as below the first is the water problem, then the next image shows ideas for a second problem. This will be the main idea throughout the whole game.

Some Solutions for the begining

above is where we are at present with regards to the starting level. With a flying tap. The level problem here is to raise the island up, by turning on the flying tap, but where do you turn it on.......?

More of a solution to a level. The above shows a little bit of a level

Design Experiments and Solution

After a few ideas and loads of wasted time, the above would show how the whole game will be styled with regards to levels etc The above is constructed via circles, which came from the concept of the sky seen later.

Some initial Roughs

Well thought we better start logging our manual work onto the blog, so above are some initial ideas and roughs.
